Rolling stone magazine is an American magazine that focuses on music, popular culture, and politics. The magazine is published twice a month and was founded by Jann Wenner in the town of San Francisco; this was in the year 1967. Wenner has been the magazine’s editor since founded it and alongside him is Ralph J. Gleason who is a music critic and has worked as long as Wenner for the magazine.  

In the beginnings of 1970s, the magazine was focusing on politics through one of its own iconic Journalist Hunter S. Thompson. The magazine later changed its focus from mainstream politics to a more appealing format for young people in the 1990s. The magazine started to focus on influential  young actors and music superstars. This has made the magazine be criticized for highlighting style rater than substance
The magazine has been controversial in its own right, but the most controversial cover in the magazine’s history appear on the cover of January 22, 1981 issue. In the photo is John Lennon squatting naked against his wife. A famous photographer, Annie Leibovitz on December8, 1980, had taken the picture just hours before Lennon was shot outside his apartment.
